Uranus and global changes – Should we interpret Uranus (Neptune and Pluto) in Jyotish?
To the question of what is happening in the world, there are generally three answers:
1) I don’t know.
Honest answer. This is how I would have answered until a few years ago.
2) I know everything.
This is the exclusive territory of famous conspiracy theorists and YouTubers, and I happily leave it to them.
3) Repeating planetary patterns or “History repeating itself”.
Everything that happens is correlated with the cyclical movement of the planets and their angles, that is, mutual aspects. Astrology is precisely concerned with the meanings arising from the aforementioned planetary movements and interactions.
Mundane astrology deals with worldly, global events. It’s not an area I’m interested in, nor have I studied. However, due to shocking changes in the past few years, I started researching and studying this type of astrology as well. This text is part of my observations that I share with you on this occasion.
Significance of transpersonal planets
A true sensation took place in the world of astronomy and astrology when Uranus was discovered, it was the first discovered planet after tens of thousands of years of human observation of the sky – since the Stone Age.
It will be the first of three newly discovered transpersonal or transcendent planets : Uranus (discovered in 1781), Neptune (1846) and Pluto (1930). These discoveries were also harbingers of huge global changes that would take place in the following centuries.
None of the mentioned planets would have been discovered if it had not been for the discovery of the telescope and scientific and technical development. With this, the existing limit of the model of the cosmos that the world viewed up to Saturn, which can be seen with the naked eye, was overcome.
Hence the term transcendent, because it is necessary to transcend, that is, to overcome, to move the limits of experience, in order for these planets to be visible.
The term transpersonal planets because they are considered to act on a collective level, and affect humanity globally and reveal the dynamics of social changes.
These planets are rarely interpreted in natal astrology when it comes to a person’s life. This is because their orbits are very long – much longer than the average human life, and staying in one sign lasts a long time, it becomes general .
In terms of mundane astrology, astrology that deals with global events, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto play a significant role because they reveal valuable information about the events themselves and the phases of change.
In this text I deal with the importance of Uranus and its aspects* with other planets. Although there is no mention of these planets in traditional Jyotish, I believe that observation of transpersonal planets is necessary to understand global changes and the increasingly complex world in which we live.
* The most important astrological aspects are: conjunction (0˚), square (90˚), trine (120˚) and opposition (180˚).
Meaning of Uranus
Uranus’s ideas are: awakening, development, change, social justice, unconventionality, sudden inspiration, idea, rebellion, discoveries, technological development, creativity, freedom, (r)evolution… Its role is to break the rigidity of old thinking and structures (Saturn), and to create new and free.
If Uranus is negative, then it brings: non-acceptance of responsibility, rebellion without reason, anarchy, extreme behavior…
Uranus and global changes
In Jyotish, we pay special attention to the zodiac signs, in contrast to western (solar) astrology, which is very oriented to the horoscope houses.
When we look at world events, radical changes occur when (aspected) planets find themselves in one of the Cardinal signs: Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.
Here are the most important aspects of the following planets: Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, since they are planets with long orbits + certain aspects among them occur only once in a whole century.
Saturn’s orbit lasts about 30 years, Uranus’s 84, Neptune’s 165, and Pluto needs 248 years for one orbit around the Sun.
It is important to point out that Jyotish is sidereal astrology, and the transits we use are also sidereal, i.e. they are different from the positions interpreted by Western (solar) astrology.
Aries and the New World Order
Aries, as the first sign of the zodiac and also a fire sign, brings extraordinary liveliness and turmoil when it is activated by the mentioned planetary movements and mutual aspects. It is always the time of the creation of something new, and the breakdown of old ideas and order. Unfortunately, the result is often armed conflict.
Let’s see what the conjunctions of Uranus with Pluto in 1850 in the sign of Aries, and soon after with Saturn in 1852, brought.
The result was the Crimean War , that is, the struggle for supremacy – Russia fought against an alliance: the United Kingdom, France, the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Piedmont.
Uranus (combined with Pluto, Saturn and the sign of Aries) then brought about the drastic use of new technologies, weapons, and surprising changes in warfare tactics, a mass exodus of residents, military and logistical incompetence, and the military reconstruction and arming of Europe… Isn’t that the same result of the current conflict in Ukraine…
Let’s look at the current position (2021-2023) of Uranus in Aries and its aspects (square) with Saturn and Pluto.
During the current transit of Uranus in Aries (and its aspects with Saturn and Pluto) we are witnessing a new war, i.e. the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The events are almost identical to those during the Crimean War (19th century). It seems as “the continuation of a story” is happening to humanity.
The Cold War
Let’s note that during 2021-2023 Saturn and Pluto are in the same sign (Capricorn). When they were last in the same sign (in Cancer) in 1947, the Cold War began. Now we have a similar situation, the “new Cold War” and the radical division of the world are mentioned again and again.
Saturn + Pluto (in the same sign, in Cancer) 1947 = Cold war started.
Saturn + Pluto (in the same sign, in Capricorn) 2021-2023. = a new Cold War?
Second World War
The global changes that enabled the new architecture of the world took place when Uranus was in Aries (from 1933 to 1941) and aspected by the already mentioned Saturn and Pluto.
In 1933, during the transit of Uranus in the sign of Aries, a specific planetary configuration was formed in the sky, Western astrologers call it ” T-square” and in the cardinal signs : Uranus + Pluto squared, as well as the opposition Pluto + Saturn, and the square Uranus + Saturn.
During the aforementioned planetary aspects, the following happened: the collapse of the world stock market, Hitler’s rise to power, World War II began… In the following years, the previous global order was disintegrated, and then a brutal fight for a new world order, a new balance of power, took place.
The dynamic Trinity
The signs in trines are 120 degrees apart, and they always represent the same element (fire, water, air, earth). Hence we will say that they ” share the same fate”, the same sequence. In fact, these signs work together, that is, they represent three stages of the development of certain ideas: creation, maintenance and decomposition. The planets in them follow the same principle!
Uranus in Leo – Maintenance
Uranus was in Leo from 1960 to 1967. It was a time of protests and crises, movements for human rights… there was a flourishing of awareness of the importance of human freedoms, as well as violent initiatives to protect and preserve them.
At the same time, there was a struggle for borders and the preservation of the borders of the world order: the Cuban missile crisis – during the conjunction of Uranus + Pluto in the sign of Leo in 1962, there was a real danger of a nuclear conflict between the two dominant world powers, and the exact conjunction of Uranus + Pluto in 1965 was led to the escalation of the Vietnam War.
Sagittarius and Aries – the dismantling of the old and the need for the new one
Uranus resides in the sign of Aries from 2018 to 2025. The rare planetary combination that happened at the very end of 2019 when Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter were in Sagittarius, and at the same time in trines with Uranus in Aries, brought a new threat to the existing world order.
At the same time, the combination of Saturn + Pluto brings the danger of mass pollution, poverty, decadence, regression… It was the time of the beginning of the virus pandemic, but also a sign of the global collapse of old ideas, and an introduction to the many storms that follow during the movement of humanity towards a new global order.
Resume
- Uranus and other transpersonal planets are very useful in analyzing long periods of time.
- Their aspects show global events, the absence or radicalization of certain ideas – which we see based on the (sidereal) signs of the horoscope.
- Three signs, ie. the trinity of each of the four elements shows the development, the evolutionary stages of all events.
In the following text, I write about the importance of Uranus in the individual horoscope.
